Ordinary people. The courage to say no.
The photo was taken in Hamburg in 1936, during the celebrations for the launch of a ship. In the crowd, one person refuses to raise his arm to give the Nazi salute. The man was August Landmesser. He had already been in trouble with the authorities, having been sentenced to two years hard labor for marrying a Jewish woman.
We know little else about August Landmesser, except that he had two children. By pure chance, one of his children recognized her father in this photo when it was published in a German newspaper in 1991. How proud she must have been in that moment.

At least, I looked cute today.
so this picture has been making the rounds on some thinspo & other fat-hating/generally hateful blogs. With the exception of the person who announced that I am her thinspo, none of these blogs have made any comments. There just seems to be this tacit agreement that my face in and of itself is deserving of ridicule, that anyone seeing it should automatically want to laugh.
So I’ve been watching silently as it is reblogged over and over, feeling a mix of annoyance and confusion. The funny thing is that the one thing I have not felt during this time is ugly. I keep coming back to the picture trying to understand what there is to mock about it and each time I find nothing. Each time I look, I feel exactly the way I felt when I first posted it, cute. That is a victory for me because in the not too distant past, I would have been devastated by this.
It’s intense… the idea that 50 or so strangers would so thoroughly agree that my face is laughable that they feel no need to comment. In the past, I would have thought “who am I to disagree?” but all I can think now is… Why would I let their opinion have so much power over me?
You can call me ugly if you want to. Just don’t expect me to agree with you.
This whole thing just confirms the truth of this quote…
“Fat people who love themselves scare the shit out of people who don’t love themselves. Even fat people who are TRYING to love themselves scare the shit out of people who can’t do the same. We force people to have to look at why they hate their bodies because we are “supposed” to hate ours and we don’t. And sometimes they have no idea what to do with that, so they act like assholes.” - Tigress Osborn
THIS is a beautiful woman. Not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. Her words are inspiration, and I feel incredible having seen this post. If you have a problem with how someone else looks, you should consider how you feel about yourself first. You might discover you’ve taken your own personal issues out on someone else. Don’t do that. It does no one any good. We are all beautiful in our own way, no matter what we look like. Quit trying to make others feel bad so you can feel good. You will actually feel better about yourself if you help others feel good. You get back what you give out.

Oh, yes. It’s definitely MY fault that your child didn’t come to their lesson after school and then LIED to you. *eye roll*
My door was locked, mhm…how exactly were you able to just walk in here and talk to me then? Ohhhh that’s right. It wasn’t locked, yet you’re believing your child who has a TENDENCY to lie. *nods* Yup…I think we’re done here.

Whatchamacalit: Coloured Cosplay Appreciation Post
Hello!
First of all, I do not have many coloured (specifically dark) friends who cosplay. These are friends I know who do though. For the record, I am making this post because it makes me SICK hearing and reading about people who say that only certain people should be allowed to do it. Namely…THANK YOU!!! Your gender/race/body type mean JACK SHIT when it comes to cosplay.
What DOES matter is if you “get into character” and if you try hard at making your costume fit. THAT’S IT! I’m no tiny tinkerbell. I’m a big girl, but fuck any of you that think I’m a bad cosplayer. It’s about making the character work for you via personality and costuming.
The same can be said for gender AND race.
